Hi Edgar,

You really made my day by sending the information about the Durbin's in your family 
tree.  I'm going to compare it with what I have and will be keeping in touch with the 
information I have and am collecting.  I've also shared your information with William 
Durbin in MD who is a direct descendant of Samuel Durbin and Ann Logsdon.  He is also 
the brother of Congressman Richard Durbin of IL (who hopefully will be elected Senator 
in a few weeks!)  Bill recently retired from an executive position with the Pentagon 
and is a really nice person, very dedicated to genealogical research.  He and I have 
been trying to find the "missing link(s)" between his line and mine. 
 
You may have contributed greatly to that search.  Espcially because of the 
information about Jesse Durbin.  To give you some similarities to my background that 
relate well to him, I, too, began my ministry in the Northeastern Ohio Conference of 
the Methodist (now United Methodist) Church.  The connection with Canton, OH.  I have 
a brother who lives in Canton and another brother who died a couple of years ago who 
lived there.  Also, I have a lot of nephews and neices who live there. My first wife, 
Diane, and I were married during our senior year at Mt. Union College, Alliance, OH.  
It is fairly near to Canton.  I served the North Industry, OH Methodist Church as a 
student minister.  It is situated in a suburb of Canton.  (Another interesting bit of 
information is that my present wife, Cindy, has an ancestor with the name of 
"Chalfant" who was a minister in the Northeast OH Conference at about the same time as 
Jesse.  They probably knew each other.  Small world.  BTW, did I mention that both 
Cindy and I were widowed in 1971?  We married in 1972.

Bishop Simpson, whom you mentioned as being Jesse's Bishop, was born in Cadiz, 
OH which is one of my hometowns--the other being Adena, OH.  I attended and accepted 
my call to the Methodist ministry in the late 1940's while a member of the Simpson 
Methodist Church in Cadiz, named after Bishop Simpson.  (Do I remember correctly that 
it was Bishop Simpson who preached at Abe Lincoln's funeral?)

Another interesting fact is that you mentioned Bridgeport, OH which is in Jefferson 
County and not far from Mt.Pleasant, OH where my ancestors seemed to have settled.  At 
least my father, gradfather, greatgrandfather, and great-great-grandfather were from 
that area.  The cemetary in Mt. Pleasant contains the graves of numerous family 
members going back to the early 1800's.  It is located next to the Methodist Church 
where they were active members.  (I've got to research the church's records.)  I've 
been to the cemetary many times but never did make arrangements to research the 
church's records.  I met an 80 year old Durbin gentleman who lives there who is the 
grandson of a brother of my great-grandfather.  I also have to set a time to visit him 
for specific details.

It sticks in my mind that one of my grandfather's uncles was named "Jesse" but I 
have to get to my records that are in storage to be sure.  We were to begin moving 
into a new home today (Saturday) but it's raining so hard that I'm afraid it would 
ruin the numerous books, papers, and other "treasures" if we tried to do so.  We've 
postponed it until next Saturday; pray for better weather!!!

Is your name, Edgar, related to the maiden name of one of your ancestors that I 
noticed in the list you sent?  Also, do I remember that you are from the Denver, CO 
area at present?
